strict
1. strict是形容詞,意為“嚴(yán)格的,嚴(yán)厲的”,可作表語(yǔ)也可作定語(yǔ)。如:
our head teacher is very strict, but we still need many strict rules.
我們的班主任非常嚴(yán)格,但是我們還需要許多嚴(yán)格的制度。
2. 我們常見短語(yǔ)be strict with sb.,意為“對(duì)某人嚴(yán)格要求”,以及be strict in (doing) sth., 意為“對(duì)(做)某事嚴(yán)格要求”。如:
mr. smith is very strict with his children.
史密斯先生對(duì)他的孩子們要求十分嚴(yán)格。
we should be strict in (doing) our work.
對(duì)工作我們應(yīng)該嚴(yán)格要求。

look up
1. 表示“(在詞典、參考書等中)查閱……”。若賓語(yǔ)是名詞,常放在look up之后。若賓語(yǔ)是代詞,則要放在look up之間。如:
it is a good habit to look up new words in a dictionary.
在詞典里查生詞是一個(gè)良好的習(xí)慣。
if you forget my number, you can look it up in the phone book.
如果你忘了我的號(hào)碼,你可以在電話薄里查找。
2. 表示“向上看”。如:
don’t look up, the lights are too strong.
別抬頭看,燈光太強(qiáng)了。
