　　總有人將漂亮女孩比作花朵，那么如果說the girl is the rose of the party. 也就是說 she is the most attractive girl.

　　而如果有人對你說，you have roses in your cheeks. 千萬不要一頭霧水，那是在夸你面色紅潤。

　　是否因為事事進(jìn)展得很順利 everything is coming up roses.

　　一切看起來都不錯嘛，但別忘了，世上沒有不帶刺的玫瑰，也就是指事事不完美：every rose has its thorn .

　　apple of love 就指的是愛的信物。eg. hey,don’t touch that bike; it’s my aple of love.那可是我的愛情信物。

　　apple of sodom,華而不實的東西。eg.the sofa he bought yesterday was found to be an apple of sodom.

　　apple-pie order,秩序井然。eg. before her gests arrived, the hostess had put her house in apple-pie order.在她的客人來到前，女主人要把屋子收拾得井井有條。

　　apple-polisher 馬屁精。eg. john is such an apple-polisher; he always agrees with whatever the boss says.約翰是個馬屁精，不管老板說什么，他都同意。

　　go bananas, means to become angry, crazy or silly. 發(fā)怒，發(fā)瘋。

　　don’t talk about mathematics any more. i’ll go bananas. 別再跟我提數(shù)學(xué)了，我快發(fā)瘋了!

　　香蕉軟軟的，那么所謂香蕉共和國，指什么呢？banana republic means a small, poor country with a weak government, that depends on foreign money.也就是指政府無能，依靠外資的貧窮小國。

　　在電影中，特別是喜劇電影中，總會有人通常都是舉止優(yōu)雅，然后，突然一下，就摔倒在地，原來是不小心踩到了香蕉皮，真是令人尷尬。所以在英國口語中呢，banana skin stands for sth. that could cause difficulty or embarrassment, especially to sb. in a pubic position. 也就是指造成麻煩，使人當(dāng)眾出丑的事物。

　　夏天，女生愛吃一種冰淇淋，叫香蕉船，而英文就是banana split, 要記住呦。

　　中國有句俗語，吃不到葡萄說葡萄酸。英文也有此說，但簡單很多，sour grapes, sth. used to show that you think sb. is jealous and is pretending that sth. is not important 酸葡萄。

　　eg.he said he didn’t want the job anyway, but that’s just sour grapes. 他說他并不想干這份工作，其實只是吃不到葡萄說葡萄酸而已。

　　我給大家講一個笑話，有一個人非常吝嗇，從來都不會給別人哪怕是一丁點兒的東西。有一天，他不小心掉進(jìn)水里，而他又不會游泳，湊巧岸邊有個人想救他，對他說，把手給我，可這個吝嗇鬼就是不肯伸手，這時，又有人經(jīng)過，對那好心人說，你不能這樣說，你試試喊：“抓住我的手”。話音位落，那吝嗇鬼就趕緊抓住了他的手。這人可是夠吝嗇的吧�？墒�，我可不吝嗇呦，今天，我將帶給大家很多有關(guān)“手”的有趣的短語。

at hand, 就是近在咫尺。那個笑話中，可以說，幫助就是近在咫尺，help was at hand. 誰料想這吝嗇鬼就是不要呢。

　　在中文中，我們會說“落到某人手里了”在英文中就是fall into sb’s hands

　　eg. the town fell into enemy’s hands.那個小鎮(zhèn)落到敵人的手里了。被敵人控制了。

　　we don’t want these documents falling into the wrong hands.我們不想讓這些文件落入不當(dāng)?shù)娜说氖种小?/p>

　　而get your hands dirty 指的是什么呢？會把手弄臟，這其實指的就是做體力工作，to do phisical work . eg. he’s not fritened of getting his hands dirty. 他不怕干體力活。

　　guess what does “ask sb’s hand” mean? well, take an example first. he asked the general for his daughter’s hand. 從表面意思看是，他向?qū)④娨獙④娕畠旱氖�。仔�?xì)想想，我們會發(fā)現(xiàn)，在西方電影中，我們常看到，婚禮上，新娘的父親總會挽著女兒的手，然后在一段樂曲過后，緩緩走向新郎，將女兒的手交給新郎，這下，你猜到了嗎？he asked the general for his daughter’s hand.就指他請求將軍把女兒嫁給他。

　　what about “hand sth. to sb. on a plate”？把東西放在盤子上交給別人，不就有點拱手讓人的意思？always remember that nobody’s going to hand you success on a plate.要永遠(yuǎn)記住，沒人會把勝利白白送給你。

　　在英國英語中，put your hand in your pocket 指出錢，掏腰包。i’ve heard he dosen’t like putting his hand in pocket.我聽說他手頭很緊，不愿多花錢。

　　而hold sb’s hand 不但指抓住某人的手，而且還引申為幫助某人一把的意思。eg. do youwant me to come along and hold your hand？你需要我過去幫幫你嗎？

　　turn sb’s hand to sth , 能夠做。jim can turn his hand to most jobs around the house.吉姆能擔(dān)當(dāng)家里大部分的活。

　　人多好辦事，眾人拾柴火焰高，英文就是many hands make light work..

　　說完了手，we’ll talk about some phrases about foot.

　　be rushed off your foot. or be run off your foot. means to be extremely busy; to have too many things to do. 忙得不可開交；要做太多事。eg. to repair the sports meeting, we’ve been rushed off our feet.為了準(zhǔn)備運動會，我們忙得不可開交。

　　fall/land on your feet means to be lucky finding yourself in a good situation. or in getting out of a difficulty. 特別走運。安然脫離困境。thank goodness! you finally landed on your feet! 感謝上帝，你終于脫險了！

　　get/have a /your foot in the door, to manage to enter an organization, a filed of business, etc, that could bring you success. 設(shè)法加入，涉足某組織、行業(yè)等。eg. i always wanted to work in tv but it took me two years to get a foot in the door.我一直想從事電視工作，但花了2年時間才進(jìn)了這個圈子。

　　get/start off the right/ wrong foot with , to start a relationship well/bedly 開始時關(guān)系良好或不好。i seem to have got off on the wrong foot with the new boss. 看來我和新老板的關(guān)系一開始就不好。

　　在中文中，有腳踏實地這一說法，英文也一樣。keep your feet on the ground.就是了。do keep your feet on the ground ;it’s the only way to success.腳踏實地，這才是唯一通向成功之路。

　　set foot in/on sth., to enter or visit a place. 進(jìn)入，訪問，參觀某地。eg. do you still remember the name of the man who is the first to set foot on the moon? 你還記得第一個登上月球的人的名字嗎？

　　set sb./sth. on their/its feet to make sb./sth. independent or successful.使獨立，使成功。eg. his business sense helped set the club on its feet again.他的經(jīng)營意識使俱樂部重振雄風(fēng)。

　　stand on your own feet, means to be independent and able to take care of yourself. 自立。when his parents died , he had to learn to stand on his own feet. 他父母過世后，他不得不學(xué)會自立。

　　試想一下，如果有什么東西在你腳下，你一定會覺得不自在吧。under your feet 就是礙手礙腳。eg. i don’t want you kids under my feet while i’m cooking.我做飯時，不希望你們這些孩子在這礙手礙腳。

　　如果，有一天，世界上只有黑與白兩種顏色，會不會太單調(diào)了呢，我們應(yīng)該高興，我們生活在一個多彩斑斕的世界里。所以，有人問我，最喜歡哪種顏色時，我總覺得為難，因為每種顏色都很美麗。好了，我們今天就來介紹一下有關(guān)顏色的英語短語。

　　首先，我們說說紅色，red 。第一個詞組：be in the red, which means that to owe money to your bank because you have spent more than you in your account.其實，就指負(fù)債，虧空，財政赤字。赤——不就指紅色嗎？eg. the company has plunged 37million dollars into the red; it’s in the red. 公司負(fù)債達(dá)3700萬元。一定要有定冠詞，不然be in red 指穿著紅色的衣服，she is in red.

　　電視中，我們�？吹接兄匾獊碣e，蒞臨指導(dǎo)，總是要鋪紅地毯，以示尊重。所以，the red carpet treatment 就指隆重接待。eg. i didn’t expect to be given the carpet treatment. 我可沒想到會受到隆重接待。

　　cent 是美分， 那么，red cent 是什么呢？eg. i didn’t have a red cent for all my work.我做了那么多工作，可一分錢也沒拿到�？梢�，red cent 就指 很少的錢。值得注意的是，這個詞組要用在否定句中。

　　下面這個詞非常有意思，red-eye 。很自然地想到是紅眼的意思，但它還有另一個意思就是夜間航班。不知，你們夜晚是否看見過飛機飛過，機頭處總是紅色的，一閃一閃， 大概就是由此而來的吧。eg. we took the red-eye to boston.我們乘坐夜間航班抵達(dá)波士頓。

　　那么，接著我們說說綠色，green 。green hand 就指新手，新人。green thumb 綠色的大拇指，其實指花匠。tom is an excellent green thumb; he always takes good care of his flowers in the garden. 湯姆是個優(yōu)秀的花匠，他總能把花園里的花料理的很好。

　　然后再看看白色吧，白色代表純潔。所謂無傷害的謊言就是white lie 。though you’ve told a white lie, but lie is a lie. 盡管你說的謊沒有惡意，但謊言就是謊言。

　　與白相對就是黑了，還記得有一首歌，其中一句：i’m the black sheep of the family. black sheep 就指壞孩子，敗家子。
