    一、動詞短語（短語）

    he refused to accept the invitation.

    他沒有接受邀請。

    she missed the bus to the factory.

    她沒有趕上去工廠的車。

    we failed to convince her of her shortcomings.

    我們沒能使她認識到自己的缺點。

    the exact date has escaped me.

    我記不起確切日期了。

    some students lack confidence in themselves.

    一些學生對自己缺乏信心。

    此外還有：deny否定，reject拒絕，doubt懷疑，neglect忽略，let alone不管、不論，prevent/keep/stop/protect...from使免于、使不受……之害。

    此外還有：absent不在的、缺席的，deaf to不聽，poor缺少的、不好的，short of缺少，safe from免于，free from不受……影響，free of無……的。

    此外還有：against對……不利，past超出……可能，off離開、解除，except/but除了，in place of代替、而不是，but for是不是、若非。

    他們的希望化為烏有。

    he is anything but an expert.

    she is a fool to mary in studies.

    此外還有：failure失敗，ignorance無知，lack缺乏，shortage缺少，refusal拒絕，few少數(shù)、幾乎沒有，little沒有多少。
